What We Do At Environclean Community Group
Our national and international interests have involved us in supporting people from diverse backgrounds protect and preserve the environment through sustainable waste management.
The challenges we come across continuously are:
- Pathetic waste disposal & management
- Effects of unemployment and lack of basic skills for employment
- Bad housing
- Acute shortage of sanitation facilities and waste removal services
- Poor and abhorrent sanitation and non-affordable water facilities and services
- Lack of adequate educational facilities
- Social isolation
Environclean supports our partners to:
- Be able to reduce poverty
- Strengthen capacity for self-help
- Provide and nurture economic opportunities
- Information dissemination on relevant waste management strategies to disadvantaged communities
- Access to skills for the youth & women communities
- Ensure every person has a right to pursue happiness
Clean up campaigns, Kenya
2006: There was lack of knowledge on proper waste disposal and its management in Kenya, so in November 2006 we initiated a community involvement in waste management dubbed ENVIROSAFI 2006 which involves regular cleanup programs; combining responsibility with sports. The project is run by SPIF, our sister CBO in Kenya.Be the catalyst for change. As of 2012, these project has led to a waste management program that generates income for the benefeciaries and has led to a marked change in the environment of Lunga Lunga slum.
May 2007 – Donations in Kind made to Environclean from Tyneside Tool Aid, Newscastle upon Tyne; to help slum youth regenerate their areas. View GALLERY for tools particulars. This tools are still in use today!
Sept 2007 – 3 days cleanup event (14-16th Sept 2007) sponsored by Clean Up World Environclean with Lunga Lunga Youth groups spruced up the slums, Nairobi Kenya.
August 2008 – Environclean & Lunga Lunga cleanup in support of CSV action Earth(UK) Campaign. Click here to read press coverage of this event.
21-22 March 2009 – Environclean & consortium of lunga Lunga groups. Cleanup in support of the litter free campaign. We support Cleanup world Australia.
